BERLIET
944
This Berliet 944 has been completely restored and is a very rare object. This car is in concours condition ... a proper museum piece. The car has been the property of the current owner for twenty years. The car was imported from France in its original condition and then completely restored. The restoration took the form of a ten year plan. All body parts and the frame were coated and galvanized. The entire mechanicals were restored highly professionally, with, among other things, bearings newly relined and an (original) crankshaft grounded to fit. Using Slavonic dried beechwood (as in the original car), Bart Holland, a professional Dutch oldtimer restorer, renewed the entire wooden interior. Bart Holland also restored the upholstery, using original and traditional methods. As a result, the colours and fabrics are the same as when the car was manufactured. The wiring was renewed, and modified to the extent necessary to obtain a vehicle registration. All instruments as well as the lighting function properly. A special detail is that the car has had an original 12 volts battery since it was built, and that it is fitted with a dynamo. This greatly facilitates starting (a starting handle is on hand). The colours of the car have been chosen to be similar to those when it was manufactured. The car is fitted with new Michelin tyres. A report and photographs of the entire restoration are available with the car, as well as a complete workshop manual and a paper parts catalogue. Additionally, the registration certificate of the last French owner of the car and all restoration invoices will be provided. The total cost of the restoration substantially exceed the present asking price.
