FACEL II

The French car industry has seen some beautiful brands, with fine names such as Talbot-Lago, Delahaye, Bugatti, and also Facel Vega. The decline of the French luxury brands is to be attributed to several factors, such as the occupation by Germany, shortages in supplies of materials, an insufficiently large market and high taxes on powerful luxury models. The Facel Vega brand was founded in 1953 and unfortunately the curtain fell in as early as 1964. The Facel II is the last, and according to many the best, version of the Facel Vega V8 coupes. This version was made in a series of just 184 examples.

HEKSCHER WAS A MUSICIAN, A COMPOSER AND LEADER OF HIS FAIRMONT ORCHESTRA

The list of names of celebrities who have owned a Facel is striking. To name just a few: Ringo Starr, Stirling Moss, Pablo Picasso, Fred Astaire, Frank Sinatra and many others. The car we have on offer was also owned by a celebrity: Ernie Heckscher (b.1916-1996). Hekscher was a musician, a composer and leader of His Fairmont Orchestra. His band played with such greats as Edith Piaf, Ella Fitzgerald, Nat King Cole, Harry Belafonte, Sammy Davis Jr. and many others.

Hekscher's car was supplied in Paris in April 1964 and was almost directly shipped to his home address in San Francisco. All documents, including the bill of sale, the purchase deed as well as the correspondence have been preserved. As far as we can ascertain the car was called back to France in 2009 and subsequently arrived at a Dutch collector in 2013. This collector engaged JB Classics, the Facel Vega specialist in Boskoop, the Netherlands, to carry out a restoration of the car's mechanicals. Obviously, the bills concerning this work, totalling over 20,000 euros, are available for inspection.
