TAUNUS CABRIOLET

This car is literally one of a kind. Ford had just one example built with left hand drive. Carbodies Ltd, the British coachbuilder from Coventry, known as the builders of the characteristic English taxis, had built a few RHD cabriolets for Ford previously, and these had been sold in England by the name of Cortina. A car with left-hand driving was to have Ford gain a foothold on the continent and Carbodies was ordered to build this Taunus which was then presented on the 1980 Car Show in Birmingham. The attempt was unsuccessful and no more examples were built. The car was sold to a resident of London. In 1989 the car, which by then had 20,000 km on the clock, was discovered by a Dutch aficionado who brought the Taunus to the Netherlands. The paintwork had lost some of its lustre but otherwise the car was in excellent condition. The car was resprayed followed by a renewal of the hood a few years later. This is really all the work carried out on the car. The rest wasn’t touched and has remained entirely original. With its smooth-running V6 engine and its mileage of just 67,500 km, this car will provide you with lots of driving pleasure and make it a welcome guest at car concourses and events.
